Following our recent announcement, we are pleased to formally welcome David L. Schreiner, PhD, FACHE, as Chief Executive Officer of the National Center for Healthcare Leadership.
After serving as Interim CEO, Dr. Schreiner was selected by NCHL’s Board of Directors following an extensive nationwide search. His appointment reflects his outstanding leadership, deep commitment to NCHL’s mission, and decades of experience advancing values-driven healthcare leadership.
David shares, "I am deeply honored to serve as CEO of the National Center for Healthcare Leadership. Over the past several months, I have valued the opportunity to listen, learn, and work alongside our members, partners, Board, and team.
As we begin this next chapter, I look forward to strengthening the value NCHL provides, expanding opportunities for leaders to connect and learn, and advancing our shared mission. Thank you for your continued partnership. I am excited about what we will accomplish together."

David L. Schreiner, PhD, FACHE, serves as Chief Executive Officer of NCHL. He brings more than 35 years of healthcare leadership experience, including more than a decade as a hospital and health system CEO. A nationally recognized advocate for values-driven leadership, Dr. Schreiner is also an executive coach, speaker, Executive-in-Residence at Vizient, and author of the bestselling book Be the Best Part of Their Day.

NCHL Board of Directors Meeting | Chicago, Illinois, June 2026
NCHL recently convened members of its Board of Directors and leadership team in Chicago for strategic discussions focused on the future of healthcare leadership, the continued growth of LENS, and priorities across the NCHL community.
The team also advanced planning for the 2026 NCHL Leadership Excellence Summit and Gail L. Warden Leadership Excellence Award Celebration. Time together in the city where NCHL was founded more than 25 years ago provided a meaningful opportunity to strengthen relationships, align around shared priorities, and build momentum for the work ahead.

Advancing Healthcare Leadership Competency Model 4.0 Research
|
|
NCHL continues to advance the field of healthcare leadership science through the ongoing evolution of the Healthcare Leadership Competency Model, strengthening the evidence base and translating research into practical tools leaders can apply across healthcare settings.
In partnership with Korn Ferry, the Healthcare Leadership Competency Model 4.0 research initiative has completed the national survey phase and is currently progressing through stakeholder interviews and focus groups with healthcare leaders and academic partners across the field.
The refreshed model remains on track for validation and presentation at the 2026 NCHL Leadership Excellence Summit in Chicago, Illinois on November 17, 2026.
