Connecting Leaders. Building Community. Advancing Rural Healthcare.
At NCHL, we believe meaningful innovation begins by bringing the right people together. As we look ahead, we are creating new opportunities for healthcare leaders to connect, exchange ideas, and collaborate around the challenges and possibilities shaping our field.
I am pleased to introduce the LENS Rural Health Leadership Council, a new national community designed to support senior leaders serving rural hospitals, health systems, and communities.

Expanding Opportunities for Our Members and Advancing Healthcare Leadership Excellence, Globally
In July, NCHL leadership participated in the U.S.–Iraq High-Level Business Summit in Washington, D.C., where we connected with senior healthcare, education, government, and business leaders from both countries.
These conversations helped us better understand the growth priorities of Iraqi healthcare organizations and explore how NCHL’s member community could support—and benefit from—future collaboration. Potential opportunities include leadership development, executive education, research, benchmarking, workforce strategy, peer exchange, and international partnerships.
For our members, this work represents an opportunity to build new relationships, share expertise, expand global engagement, and contribute to the advancement of healthcare leadership beyond the United States. It also reinforces NCHL’s role in creating meaningful connections that help our members pursue their strategic growth goals.

By bringing together healthcare leaders from across sectors and around the world, we help our community build partnerships, exchange expertise, and explore innovative approaches to leadership and workforce development that strengthen healthcare systems globally.
We are grateful to AHEAD for its generous hospitality and to our partners who helped make this important dialogue possible. We look forward to continuing these conversations and exploring future opportunities for collaboration.

Connecting with Members Where Leadership Happens
While in the Washington, D.C., and Baltimore area, NCHL leadership had the opportunity to spend time with member organizations and academic partners, learning firsthand about their strategic priorities, leadership challenges, and innovative approaches to developing the healthcare workforce.
Our visits included Johns Hopkins Medicine and Johns Hopkins Medicine International, where we explored leadership and professional development initiatives, international patient programs, and the organization's ongoing commitment to advancing patient care, education, and leadership. We also visited The George Washington University Milken Institute School of Public Health to meet with Dr. Robert Bonar, Director of the Master of Health Administration program, and discuss the evolving role of graduate education in preparing the next generation of healthcare leaders.
These conversations reinforce one of NCHL's core commitments: spending time with our members, listening to their priorities, understanding the challenges they are working to solve, and identifying opportunities to collaborate. Whether through leadership development, research, education, benchmarking, or convening, these visits help ensure our programs and services remain closely aligned with the needs of the healthcare organizations and leaders we serve.

Building Global Connections for Healthcare Leadership
NCHL was honored to join the Authority of Health and Medical Education (AHEAD) in Washington, D.C., for an evening of dialogue focused on strengthening healthcare collaboration between the United States and Iraq.
The discussion brought together leaders from healthcare, government, higher education, industry, and international affairs to explore shared opportunities in healthcare leadership, medical education, workforce development, biotechnology, and health system transformation.
As part of the event, NCHL welcomed leaders from our U.S. Cooperative for International Patient Programs (USCIPP), creating opportunities for meaningful relationship-building and knowledge exchange among organizations committed to advancing healthcare worldwide.
For NCHL, these conversations reflect our commitment to connecting members with strategic opportunities that extend beyond traditional networking.

Advancing Healthcare Leadership Competency Model 4.0 Research
|
|
NCHL continues to advance the field of healthcare leadership science through the ongoing evolution of the Healthcare Leadership Competency Model, strengthening the evidence base and translating research into practical tools leaders can apply across healthcare settings.
In partnership with Korn Ferry, the Healthcare Leadership Competency Model 4.0 research initiative has completed the national survey phase and is currently progressing through stakeholder interviews and focus groups with healthcare leaders and academic partners across the field.
The refreshed model remains on track for validation and presentation at the 2026 NCHL Leadership Excellence Summit in Chicago, Illinois on November 17, 2026.
Thank you to the many members and partners contributing their expertise and perspectives to help shape the future of healthcare leadership.
