JANUARY: π The Automotive programs at Enka, A.C. Reynolds, and T.C. Roberson high schools all achieved accreditation from the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) for maintenance and light repair. Each school’s program went through the rigorous ASE evaluation process.

FEBRUARY: π Third graders from Glen Arden Elementary, Black Mountain Primary, and Oakley Elementary worked in teams to design board games that educate and quiz their peers about the solar system. The Galaxy Games showcase is supported by Asheville Museum of Science and GE Aviation in Asheville

MARCH: π The gym at Fairview Elementary was filled with excitement as students laced up their sneakers, ready to compete in their own version of the Winter Olympics. P.E. Teacher Casey Schneider brought the Olympic spirit to life, turning the class into a fun and educational competition.

APRIL: π The Teacher of the Year banquet celebrated the Teachers of the Year from all 45 Buncombe County Schools, including seven BCS district finalists. The evening concluded with the surprise announcement that Darryl Fox of North Buncombe High School is the overall 2025-26 BCS Teacher of the Year.

MAY: β€οΈ The spirit of unity and celebration filled the air at T.C. Roberson High School as students from all around the county came together for the Special Olympic Games. Participants enjoyed a wide range of activities - from games and races to a fun petting zoo provided by North Buncombe High’s FFA program.

JUNE: π Congratulations to the Buncombe County Schools Class of 2025! The graduation ceremonies from our 11 high schools were filled with smiles, laughter, hugs, and cheers from students, teachers, and families. JULY: πΊπΈ The United States Air Force honored Enka High School’s JROTC with the Distinguished Unit Award, recognizing the cadets' personal growth and contributions to the community. The Air Force also named Msgt. Douglas Draper and Major Kevin Den Boer as Outstanding Instructors.

AUGUST: πΊ Their hearts stayed shining brightly, even on some of the darkest days. WLOS-TV featured the teachers and staff of Emma Elementary as “WNC Heroes.” The Emma staff reconnected after Helene, collected supplies for families, and then dispatched into the community to deliver them.

SEPTEMBER: π₯ The BCS School Nutrition Department won a Healthy Meals Incentives Recognition Award from the USDA. The award highlights the district’s efforts to improve school nutrition, support healthy eating habits, and provide students with fresh, nutritious options every day.

OCTOBER: π¨ Through a special partnership with LEAF artist Tarah Singh, seventh grade students Ms. Patti Lloyd’s class at Charles D. Owen Middle School dove into the art of self-portraiture, blending studies of light, color, and emotion to craft one-of-a-kind mixed media pieces.

NOVEMBER: β¨ T.C. Roberson baseball players swapped dirt for turf to receive a sparkling reminder of a remarkable achievement during a football game. The team made history last May by earning its third consecutive 4A state baseball title. That means some players received their third championship ring.

DECEMBER: πͺ Laughter, creativity, and the sweet smell of frosting filled the room as BCS Virtual Academy students came together for a hands-on holiday tradition - building gingerbread houses side by side. This special in-person gathering gave them a chance to connect beyond their screens.
