When SMCS expertise helps demonstrate that music facilitates language learning

For several years, Professor Pauline Degrave (Institute for Language and Communication - ILC), with support from the SMCS platform for methodology and statistics, has been studying the role of music in learning. Her research all points in the same direction: music can make learning a foreign language easier.

Building a 9.3-meter wooden tower without a single nail, screw or dowel?

The LEMSC team took on the challenge as part of a project involving Tongji University (China) and UCLouvain.

How to put the offshore wind turbines foundations to the test of time?

LEMSC carried out the design and implementation of a lateral loading system up to failure on 2-meter-diameter piles similar to those used as offshore wind turbines foundations.

The LACAMI and LEMSC platforms in turn adopt the equipment management, inventory and booking system, while IMABIOL and Openhub carry out the first tests

LACAMI and LEMSC join the CREDEM, MiiL, MOCA and WELCOME platforms, as well as the technical unit of the Environmental Sciences division of the Earth and Life Institute, which have already adopted the tool and are actively encoding their equipment.
13 other structures are curently carrying out tests, and are active in the fields of Science and Technology (CRC, FERM (including University farms and Cétral), IMABIOL, MASSPROT (LLN), MICA, MOUV, OPENHUB, P2C, SEFY), or Health (2IP and CytoFlux platforms,  as well as th Human neuroscience techniques unit of the IoNS Institute).
Welcome !

Justin Goosse, a civil engineering graduate from UCLouvain, has joined the LEMSC team after four years at the Institute of Mechanics, Materials and Civil Engineering (IMMC), where he worked as a research engineer specializing in wood. In addition to his academic expertise, he also practices woodworking as a cabinetmaker in his spare time.
Motivated by the diversity of projects within the platform, he now takes on the role of test engineer and will oversee the LEMSC’s future civil engineering projects.
