While 2025 will undoubtedly be remembered for the celebrations marking UCLouvain’s 600th anniversary, the year has also been marked by:
- the creation of 4 new structures, bringing to 49 the total number of technology platforms within the University;
- the arrival of several new pieces of equipment acquired as part of the Plan de Relance, paving the way for new research initiatives and services for society;
- the rollout of a management, inventory and booking tool across 20 platforms and 6 research groups or institutes, spanning UCLouvain’s 3 sectors.
But let’s leave the numbers aside and look at what comes next : new equipment, research projects, training opportunities and events — plenty of exciting developments to end the year on a highly positive note!
Happy holiday season!

When the lasers and mirrors of the LAS&O platform are used to confine hydrogen molecules in space
In a study published in Physical review Letter, an international team of physicists involving the University of Amsterdam, the University of Toruń (Poland) and UCLouvain managed to confine molecular hydrogen in an optical cavity - two mirrors facing each other with a laser beam injected between them.

Interest in the equipment management, inventory, and reservation system is growing!
Through the encoding carried out, an inventory of the main equipment is gradually being compiled at UCLouvain level. The advantage? Knowing that cutting-edge equipment exists within the University and who to contact!
For technical and scientific staff, this can be very useful for a one-off experiment or in the event of a breakdown. And for academic members involved in setting up a research project, it avoids having to ask funders for equipment that already exists!
