POST OF THE WEEK: 🏆🏆🏆 They are teacher leaders in their schools, and Thursday evening they all joined together for the 2025-26 Buncombe County Schools Teacher of the Year Celebration.
The event celebrates the Teachers of the Year from all 45 Buncombe County Schools, including seven BCS district finalists. The evening concluded with the surprise announcement that Darryl Fox of North Buncombe High School is the overall BCS Teacher of the Year. The Welding teacher will represent the school system in regional competition when the new school year begins.

T.C. ROBERSON JUNIOR NAMED TO U.S. PARALYMPIC SWIMMING NATIONAL TEAM
🏊♀️ T.C. Roberson High School junior Emma Roberts has been named to the U.S. Paralympic Swimming National Team, marking a major milestone in the athletic and academic journey of the 16-year-old from Asheville.
Roberts earned her spot after a breakout performance at the U.S. Paralympic Swimming National Championships in Orlando, where she finished second in the 100-meter freestyle S10 final. It was her first time competing at nationals.

🚀 It’s been a minute since Baxter Harrill walked the halls of A.C. Reynolds High School. He graduated in 2007. However, when he was planning the perfect proposal for his girlfriend, he knew it was time to come back to Rocket Country.

✈️ Enka High School Athletic Director Brian Carver has been recognized as a Certified Master Athletic Administrator by the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association. He is one of the very elite group of educators to achieve the status.

👗 April 3 was a day of sparkle and smiles at Charles D. Owen High School as Universe United Miss North Carolina 2025, Reanna Ruark, turned the school’s media center into a pop-up prom boutique.

🏆 The BCS district athletics specialist has been recognized for being at the top of his game. The North Carolina Athletic Directors Association presented David Ball with the Gerald M. McGee Award of Excellence.

🥣 While teaching her 7th graders about kitchen safety, cutlery skills, and appliance usage, Erwin Middle School teacher Becca Letterman challenged students to make a homemade tasty applesauce.
