We are pleased to share that the new article “Telomere-driven senescence accelerates tau pathology, neuroinflammation and neurodegeneration in a tauopathy mouse model”, from the Aging and Dementia lab (CEMO) led by Pascal Kienlen-Campard, has recently been published in Acta Neuropathologica Communications.

 

In this study, they investigated the role of telomere attrition and cellular senescence in the progression of tau pathology in a novel combined mouse model that recapitulates both senescence and tauopathy features. They found that the introduction of a senescent context accelerates tau pathology and exacerbates neuroinflammation and neuronal loss in vulnerable brain regions. More importantly, they showed that cellular senescence is not a mere bystander or a consequence of tauopathy, but a key upstream regulator of tau-dependent neurodegeneration, opening up promising avenues for therapeutic intervention against Alzheimer's disease and other tauopathies.
